My mother doesn’t like my boyfriend

Dear Pastor,

I am 18 years old and I am having a problem. I have a boyfriend, but my mother does not like him.

I like him because he is a hard worker and he respects me. But my mother feels that he is not good enough for me. She wants me to love a guy whose parents are wealthy. The parents of this guy who my mother loves have money. But I told my mother that I prefer to have this other guy as my boyfriend. My mother told me that I do not have ambition. But I know that I do.

My father told my mother that she should leave us alone and not try to choose for me. I love this guy very much. I told one of my brothers that I will have this guy get me pregnant on purpose so that my mother would leave us alone. What do you think about that?

Dear K.C.,

Your parents should not decide for you who should be your future partner. In our culture, that is not encouraged.

On the other hand, you would be very stupid to allow a man to get you pregnant just because you do not want your parents to try to choose for you. So stop the nonsense. Get the foolishness out of your mind.

Study hard. Put a goal before you and work towards your goal. That is how I see it.
