JFF: Applications flowing for Reggae Boyz coaching job
The job of coaching Jamaica’s senior men’s national football team is a hot commodity, according to the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), with applications pushing to claim the role.
“People have been applying, and so the process has been ongoing, and people will be interviewed and the best candidate will be recommended to be ratified by the board,” informed Michael Ricketts, president of the JFF.
Jamaica’s senior men’s team is currently coached by Rudolph Speid and his assistant, Miguel Coley, both serving in an interim capacity since Englishman Steve McClaren’s departure in November last year.
The English coach left after failing to lead the country to automatic World Cup qualification in last year’s Concacaf group Final playoffs.
The JFF yesterday sent out a release informing of its acceptance for the national coaching job.
Ricketts declined to name any of the applicants who have applied for the job so far, noting that the best suitable candidate will be selected for the job.
Also, Ricketts said, if Speid and Coley are interested in the job, then they, too, will have to apply.
“If they want the job, then they will have to apply too,” said Ricketts.
“In fact, anybody who wants the job will have to go through the process of submitting their application with their relevant resume, and they will be interviewed by the technical committee, and the recommendations made to the board of directors, who will make the final decision,” he said.
In the meantime, the Reggae Boyz will play a friendly international against World Cup-bound South Africa on Saturday in Mexico.
Speid, says Ricketts, will remain interim head coach for the encounter.
“Speid will be in charge of the senior team for this game against South Africa on Saturday,” he said.
In a media release, the JFF said the candidates must possess a valid Concacaf A Licence or an internationally recognised equivalent, or UEFA Pro/A Licence.
They also must have a proven record of elite-level coaching experience, preferably with senior national teams or top-tier professional clubs, exceptional leadership, strategic planning, tactical acumen, and communication skills, with the ability to manage high-pressure environments and diverse stakeholder expectations.
Interested candidates should submit their applications by June 30.
