Man charged with murder after 10 years on the run
Detectives from the Hunts Bay Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have advanced a long-running investigation with the charging of a man in connection with a 2016 murder in Greenwich Farm, Kingston 13.
The accused is 39-year-old Andrew Anderson, otherwise called ‘Prince’, of Seventh Street, Greenwich Farm. He has been charged with the murder of 62-year-old Junior Russell, also of Seventh Street.
Police reports indicate that around 5:15 p.m. on July 28, 2016, Russell and Anderson were involved in a dispute that escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, Anderson allegedly used a knife to stab Russell before fleeing the scene.
Russell was rushed to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators say Anderson reportedly left the community for several years, but continued intelligence-led policing efforts eventually tracked him down. He was arrested during a CIB operation on June 12.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Keaton Barrett, crime officer for the St Andrew South Division, praised the work of investigators in bringing the matter to a breakthrough.
“The Jamaica Constabulary Force is relentless in their investigations, regardless if time has passed; time does not erase crimes. I commend the investigative work of the detectives and for the information that led to Anderson’s arrest. This proves that when the community and the police work together, there is no place for criminals to hide,” said Barrett.
