Tears flowed in Rocky Point, Clarendon, on Sunday after a five-year-old girl was found unresponsive inside an open pit at her home.

Dead is Rackeema Williams.

According to police reports, the child is believed to have fallen into the uncovered pit on the premises. It is understood that her mother was inside the house but became alarmed when she could not find her daughter and began searching the yard.

During the frantic search, the mother reportedly noticed that a stone normally used to secure a manhole cover had been moved. When she checked the area, she made the heartbreaking discovery of Rackeema's lifeless body inside the pit.

The child was pulled from the water, and it was reported that water was seen oozing from her nose and ears. She was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The STAR understands that Rackeema is a relative of three people who were chopped to death in the community last December. Two of those victims were laid to rest just last Saturday, compounding the grief now facing the family.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident as the community grapples with yet another tragedy.
